The Department of Telecommunications in Transportation was established in 1997 as a result of the transformation of the Department of Telecommunications at the Faculty of Transportation of the Warsaw University of Technology.

History of the Department:
On November 1, 1975, the Telecommunications Team was established at the Institute of Transport, Warsaw University of Technology. The team of the former Department of Communication Teletechnics was transferred from the Faculty of Electronics of Warsaw University of Technology as the Telecommunications Team to the Institute of Transport. In 1985, the Telecommunications Team is transformed into the Department of Telecommunications at the Institute of Transport of the Warsaw University of Technology.

As a result of another reorganization at the Warsaw University of Technology, the Institute of Transport is transformed into the Faculty of Transport of the Warsaw University of Technology. As of 01.09.1997, the Department of Telecommunications is transformed into the Department of Telecommunications in Transport (which exists to this day). The first head of the Department of Telecommunications in Transport becomes Mrs. Prof. Krystyna Ważyńska-Fiok, who has headed the Telecommunications Department since 1981.

On 27.10.1994, as a result of a sudden illness, Prof. Dr. Eng. Krystyna Ważyńska-Fiok passed away. The management of the Department of Telecommunications in Transport was entrusted to Dr. Eng. Jerzy Chmiel. As of 01.10.1995. Mr. Prof. Wojciech Wawrzynski, D.Sc. was appointed head of the TwT Department. He held this function until September 31, 2008. The Head of the Department of Telecommunications in Transportation became Dr. Miroslaw Siergiejczyk, Prof. of PW, as of October 1, 2008.

The old headquarters of the Department, Warsaw, 79 Koszykowa Street (former Military College of Warsaw University of Technology).

Initially, the Department of Telecommunications in Transport was located in the building of the former Military College of the Warsaw University of Technology (now the Business School of the Warsaw University of Technology) in Warsaw at 79 Koszykowa St. In February 2016, it is moved to a newly built wing at 75 Koszykowa St. This is now the headquarters of the Department of Transport of the Warsaw University of Technology (the building of the New Drawing Room with the addition of a new wing).

The work of the plant was headed successively in the years:

• Prof. Krystyna Ważyńska-Fiok, D.Sc. in the years: 01.09.1981. - 27.10.1994 r.
• Dr. Eng. Jerzy Chmiel in the years: 28.10.1994 r. - 30.09.1995 r.
• Prof. Wojciech Wawrzyński, D.Sc. in the years: 01.10.1995. - 30.09.2008 r.
• Prof. Miroslaw Siergiejczyk, D.Sc. in the years: 01.10.2008. - 30.09.2020 r.
• Prof. Adam Rosiński, D.Sc., PW in the years: 01.10.2020 to present.
