Description:

Congestion affects the economic productivity and sustainability of cities, making it a major challenge for urban areas worldwide. The European Union has recognized congestion as a priority issue in the transport sector. The rapid increase in motorization and vehicle availability leads to transport infrastructure being overwhelmed during morning and afternoon rush hours, significantly reducing average travel speeds. The forced reduction in speed due to traffic conditions can influence a driver's decision-making when transitioning from a congested area to one where they have more control over vehicle speed.

So far, research has primarily focused on analysing congested areas and their direct impact on the increased risk of traffic incidents. This project aims to conduct a pilot study to assess the effects of exiting a congestion zone on traffic participants.

Project funded by the National Science Centre within the framework of the MINIATURA competition
